In the first reading, for survival, a man leaves his country for Moab, with his wife and two sons. They survive but the man later dies with his two sons, leaving behind the three women: his wife, and the wives of his two sons. The sons’ wives have to make a decision when Naomi, their mother-in-law, has to go back to her country. One goes back to her own people, a wise option. The other Ruth, decides to stay with her mother-in-law. Other than love for her mother-in-law, who needs companionship in her old age, it is difficult to say why Ruth decides to do this. Ruth chooses love as Jesus commands, and that leads to her same being engraved in the genealogy of Jesus today.
